Direct Line University is excited to share several programs currently underway. Whether you’re looking to grow in your current role, take on new responsibilities, or support your team’s development, there’s something here for everyone. Here’s what’s happening now:
Starting Strong
Starting a new role—or growing into a new one—can feel overwhelming, which is why there are 30-60-90 Day Development Plans for some of our key roles. This tool gives new hires, recently promoted employees, or team members preparing for future roles a structured path to success. The plan breaks development into manageable phases over three months, with specific goals and tasks to complete along the way.
More than just a checklist, this plan is about real growth. Employees meet regularly with a mentor and their manager, get consistent feedback, and align their development with the goals of our projects. Right now, we are testing digital versions of the development plans on CBRE’s Talent Coach and will launch them in June. As an interim step, there are paper-based versions available for use. For more information about development opportunities, contact your supervisor or [email protected].
Developing Leaders
We recently introduced leadership development programs offered through the Institute for Leadership & Development (ILM). The programs, targeted at several levels of leaders, are designed to provide the skills and confidence needed to lead with impact. Over six months, participants dive into topics like communication, building effective teams, managing change, and coaching others. It’s a mix of live virtual sessions, individual work, and peer learning, led by expert facilitators with peers from across CBRE.
The programs are ideal for leads, supervisors, or strategic leaders. Nominations for the next offering start in July, so if you’re interested, now’s a great time to plan by talking to your manager.
Growing Technical Skills
The Field Career Path (FCP) Skill Assessment is all about skills and growth. This process allows supervisors and technicians (from installers through advanced senior leads) to document one of your most valuable assets – skills. It’s a great tool for understanding strengths, identifying areas for growth, and preparing for new opportunities.
Our Meta teams are currently conducting FCP assessments, and the DCP teams will start in June. Foremen, project managers, program managers, and site managers can provide specific details about the timing of assessments at your site.
Looking Ahead
There’s more on the horizon: we’re in the early stages of developing a new Technician Boot Camp, a hands-on, skills-focused program designed to prepare future technicians and projects for success. While the details are still being finalized, the goal is to provide a structured, engaging experience that builds core technical competencies and sets the foundation for our continued growth. More information will be shared as the program takes shape, but we’re excited about what’s coming and the impact it will have on our business.
