Nvidia’s first GPU in 1999 transformed PC gaming and modern computer graphics. Today, Nvidia leads the way in innovation. Direct Line and Nvidia have collaborated closely since early 2017 to drive the adoption of ML and GenAI models. DL’s commitment to deploying cutting-edge technology and providing advanced infrastructure solutions has been instrumental in reshaping the landscape of AI and advanced computing. Direct Line has delivered 34 projects for Nvidia since 2017, and here’s how we did it.
Building trust: In 2017, Direct Line gained customer trust by supporting Selene, Nvidia’s supercomputer. Nvidia looked to Direct Line to provide high-quality, efficient fiber optic cable delivery with impeccable results that were within the budget and ahead of schedule.
Managing expectations: Clear communication is key to successful projects. In 2020, Direct Line established a plan for how both companies will work together by defining roles and responsibilities, setting clear goals, and forming a Nvidia delivery team across all business units with support from top-level executives and employees. This resulted in new revenue streams across DL to support Nvidia’s needs.
Resolving conflicts: Our most significant project award in company history faced an issue where a GC required non-standard terms from Direct Line, putting DL at higher risk. Nvidia believed in a compromise for the ultimate benefit of both parties.
Managing communication: Direct Line has recently become a delivery partner and a labor partner. This resulted from effective communication with all parties at Nvidia within the procurement, billing, and advanced engineering teams.
Maintaining momentum: Maintaining a positive business relationship and focusing on shared goals is important. This can be achieved through regular meetings, progress updates, and being willing to adapt when necessary. In 2022, Direct Line expanded its portfolio by offering multiple new services. Additionally, we created a recurring revenue stream by placing key individuals into Nvidia and being flexible and willing to invest in new areas of expertise.
One of the most significant milestones in this partnership has been the deployment of Selene and Eos. These state-of-the-art technologies have contributed to groundbreaking supercomputing achievements, propelling industry research and innovation. DL’s expertise and dedication to Nvidia’s vision have led to its appointment as the dedicated delivery partner for all NextGen supercomputer deployments. This recognition underscores DL’s unwavering commitment to spearheading operational excellence, fostering innovation, and pivoting when asked.
