SUMMARY
The Director Training and Development represents the organization as a proponent of Change Management tasked to define training department structures, objectives and initiatives that promote the professional and personal growth of our human assets. The Director of Training and Development ensures consistency in the delivery and application of training standards across the business and oversees the planning, prioritization, and development of new training programs and initiatives, ensuring that these programs and initiatives are consistent with the business overall strategies, objectives, and needs. This role is also responsible for improving the skills, capabilities and productivity of the organization’s employees.
The Director of Training and Development also plays a leading role in the development and documentation of the training path for key positions within the business and communicating this information as needed.
This position additionally directs training and development processes ensuring all new hires receive high-quality orientation and on-boarding experiences in order to maintain a high employee performance level as well ensuring the on-going training development of incumbent employees through their employment cycle.
While this is a leadership position, this is a “player- coach” role where the individual will participate, along with the team, in the development and delivery of training programs.
In addition, expectation is for candidate to continually evaluate DL’s T&D strategy, to include exploring turning capability to support client talent/training requirements. While representing DL’s training & development to key stakeholders, including clients, institutions and regional development organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, organizes, helps develop and leads Onboarding, Job Skills and Management training programs.
- Oversees the annual training and development needs assessment.
- Develops training and development programs and objectives.
- Directs training and development processes ensuring all new hires receive high-quality orientation and on-boarding experiences.
- Creates, revises and develops job skills training to prepare field staff to operate at a high-performance level for our clients.
- Pursues external training grants in new markets to develop and deliver entry level position training for new sites.
- Assess and develops / obtains necessary supervisory and management training programs which provide for an engaging and values-based culture.
- Oversees the creation of content, e-learning, collateral and other training materials that will impact behavior using various training theories, media, job aids, facilitator and participant guides, on-the-job training systems, tutorials, and demonstration models.
- Identifies, procures and oversees utilization of appropriate training tracking and delivery platform. Develops and communicates appropriate dashboard and reporting.
- Trains and coaches managers, supervisors and others involved in employee development efforts.
- Collaborates with various department heads and employees in developing unique and effective training solutions specific to the different departments.
- Develops and maintains organizational communications such as intranet bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources.
- Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results.
- Develops and oversees the delivery of training, as required, of client employees.
- Exemplifies the desired culture and values of the organization.
- Works effectively across the organization and as a team member with other members of management and the HR staff.
- Develops and administers spending against the departmental budget.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.
Education: The Director of Training and Development must have a bachelor’s degree in Training & Development, Education, Human Resources, Psychology, Business, or any other related field; an equivalent of the same in working experience is also acceptable. Master’s degree is preferred. Certified Professional in Training Management a plus.
Experience: A candidate for this position must have had at least 7 – 10 years working experience in a training and development capacity, with at least 2 – 5 years in a managerial position. The candidate must also demonstrate experience in content creation, maintenance of training processes, and the successful development of ongoing training and development programs, including the use and leverage of e-learning platforms.
Project Management Skills: develops standard and plans to achieve project requirements
Cross Functional Team management / Collaboration: The Director of Training and Development also plays a highly collaborative role where he/she builds solid cross- functional relationships with departmental heads and management across the business, with a specific focus of supporting the Operations organization.
Communication Skills: Communication skills are a must have for this position, both in written and in verbal form.
The Director of Training and Development will also be required to create training materials and reports, which must be clear, concise, and understandable. The Director of Training and Development will also have an ability to tailor the most complex messages for different audiences in a manner that they can understand and relate to.
Training Technology: A candidate for the position must be highly proficient in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and E-Learning technologies necessary for the creation of visually and verbally engaging synchronous and asynchronous training. Experience with training software and LMS systems a must.
Analytical Skills: The Director of Training and Development will demonstrate an ability to carry out analyses on the performance of training programs while drawing insights that lead to their improvement and formulating lasting solutions and the development of new strategies.
Interpersonal Skills: A candidate for this position must have an ability to prioritize tasks completing multiple tasks in a timely manner, be flexible and welcoming to change, have an ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision, and be self-motivated. He/she must also be a prompt decision maker, be a strategic and creative thinker, have excellent problem-solving skills, have a positive and easy-going attitude, demonstrate strong work ethic and integrity, and demonstrate calmness and composure in times of uncertainty.
Leadership/People Skills: The candidate must additionally demonstrate strong leadership qualities where he/she shows an ability to influence a cross-functional team and top management into following a particular course of action. He/she must also be approachable and likeable, inspiring trust in others, which will make it easier for people to trust in his insights and follow in his directives in his leadership position.
Analytics: This individual is tasked with the creation of testing and evaluation processes of the effectiveness of training programs and the development of ROI measurements.
The Director of Training and Development measures program delivery quality, which ensures continuous improvement, maintenance, and adjustment in program delivery approaches accordingly in order to maintain pace with business growth.
Change Management: Understands and is proficient at leading systematic approach to supporting employees and teams as an organization transitions to new processes, tools, or initiatives.
Requires the ability to travel up to 30%, or as may be required.
