Celebrate National Safety Month with us as we draw attention to the leading causes of avoidable harm and fatalities, enabling people to enjoy the healthiest possible lives.
Identify & Reducing Risks
Safety walkarounds or safety & health assessments are an important way to identify and reduce risks.
At Direct Line, our safety, health & environment, along with our operations teams perform safety & health assessments at least weekly and often perform them together. Each additional set of eyes can be very helpful in identifying risks. Regional safety managers and the director also visit sites and help provide guidance.
As you work on your projects, please be aware of your surroundings and the work that DL personnel and other contractors or clients are performing. If something doesn’t seem right, stop what you are doing and bring it to the attention of your safety supervisor or manager. Don’t forget that all Direct Line personnel have Stop Work Authority – which allows you to stop work if something doesn’t seem safe and bring it to your supervisor or safety team’s attention for them to further investigate.
Safety Recognition Programs
Direct Line has implemented the Safety & Health Recognition Program, which presents innovation and Safe Site of the Year awards to individuals and teams.
Another recognition program – DL’s coin recognition program – should be launched over the next few months.
Feel free to recognize any of your co-workers when you catch them working safely!
Training
Direct Line has seen improvements in our training efforts, including a more extensive safety orientation program (which is required BEFORE new employees start working in the field), online safety courses through Click Safety, in-person training, toolbox talks, and safety moments. We will also be implementing some refresher safety & health training for employees soon.
The safety director also sends out detailed safety moments to all employees on at least a monthly basis, typically on broad topics that can affect employees both at work and at home. And don’t forget about the extensive offerings on LinkedIn Learning, available through our DLU team.
